project

Perspectives.Art.Ecology is a curatorial framework which heralds an invitation to several Central West NSW artists and communities to participate in discussions about their environment. The exhibition provides a platform for a cultural mapping of the history and memory of the region tracing the relationship shared between knowledge of biodiversity and Indigenous spirituality all forming the foundation for the artists’ holistic and interdisciplinary research. Curated by Adnan Begic. Artists: Peter Charuk, Kim Goldsmith and Gail Naden.

  1. It's a personal perspective, through the eyes and experiences of me, the artist. The art is the result of interaction with and observation of the communities who live in the Central West - in an environment that is both harsh and beautiful. The interrelationship between these communities and their environments, both natural and man-made is complex and complicated. The sharing of our natural resources is a vexed process, but the need to do it more sustainably is becoming more urgent. For me, Perspectives. Art. Ecology. is an opportunity to take stock of our relationship with the environment and determine what is valued enough to preserve for our future.

  2. The perspectives differ, the complexity of the issues is great, but the emotions are often similar - and highly charged. There are few who don't have any opinion. Some of the comments posted on the Coming of Age Project blog are proving to highlight this well. http://comingofageproject.blogspot.com.
